Can you get a tattoo in hot weather? Summer tips for your tattoo sessions

Summer, the warm season of the year, is often chosen by many people to get new designs tattooed on their skin. However, it's important to take extra precautions during this period due to the increased risks associated with sun and water exposure, which can affect the healing of the tattoo and the quality of the work carried out by the tattooist. Heat is a factor to consider when it comes to healing, as it can lead to increased perspiration, which in turn can affect the healing process.

Swimming and prolonged exposure to the sun can also have a negative impact on wound healing. Take care with your tattoo on the South Shore, in the summer season, it's better to be safe than sorry. Here are our tips for getting a tattoo in summer without compromising the result.

1. Yes, it's possible, but... beware of healing

Summer is not the enemy of tattooing, but preserved, stable skin promotes optimal healing. Ambient dampness and clothing that আঁ your skin can slow healing and cause feelings of discomfort.

2. Avoid the sun before and after your session

  • Don't expose your skin to the sun 48 hours before a tattoo. Tanned or burnt skin reacts badly to the needle.

  • After the tattoo: no direct exposure for at least 2 weeks (or even longer, depending on size).

3. No swimming during the healing period

Pools, spas, lakes, beaches: off-limits until full recovery, usually two to three weeks. Rotting or chlorine-treated water increases vulnerability to infection.

4. Dress lightly (and cleanly)

Choose loose-fitting, lightweight clothing made of skin-friendly materials. A tattoo that has been rubbed or kept damp may not heal properly.

5. Stay hydrated and follow care instructions to the letter

Moisturize yourself, avoid alcohol after your session, and scrupulously follow your tattooist's instructions: gentle cleaning, specific cream, and above all, no scratching!

Summer and fresh ink go hand in hand, provided you rethink your habits and protect your skin from the sun. At Archipel Tattoo, we're with you every step of the way to ensure your tattoo heals optimally, summer and winter alike.
